QiblaLife is an Islamic lifestyle app: prayer times, Qibla compass, Quran, Hadith, dhikr counters, calendars, weather, and personal habit tracking. It is completely free, contains no advertising, requires no account, and includes no analytics or tracking of any kind.
This policy explains exactly what data the app uses, where it goes, and what never leaves your phone.
1. The short version
- We do not collect, store, sell, or share your personal data. We have no servers — there is nowhere for your data to go.
- Everything you record in the app (prayers, tasks, journal, dhikr counts, alarms, settings) stays on your device only — unless you turn on the optional Google Drive backup, which stores a copy in your own Google Drive (see section 4).
- Your location is used on your device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. Coordinates leave the device in only two cases — a request to the Open-Meteo weather service for your local weather, and, if you open the map picker, requests to the OpenStreetMap tile servers for the map images — with nothing attached that identifies you.
- No ads. No analytics. No advertising ID. No account required (optional Google sign-in for backup only). No cookies.
2. Location
What it's used for (all computed on your device):
- Prayer times, sunrise/sunset, Sahri/Iftar and Tahajjud times
- Qibla direction (bearing to the Kaaba)
- The sunrise/sunset monthly calendar
Where it goes: Your latitude/longitude is sent to the Open-Meteo weather API (https://open-meteo.com) to retrieve the weather forecast and air quality for your area. The request contains coordinates only — no name, no ID, no account, no advertising identifier. We never receive or store your location ourselves.
If you choose the map picker to set your location manually, the map images are fetched from the OpenStreetMap tile servers (https://tile.openstreetmap.org) as you pan and zoom. Those requests necessarily reveal the map area you are viewing, and carry the app's package name as the user-agent — OpenStreetMap requires this. They contain no account, no ID and no advertising identifier, and downloaded tiles are cached on your device. This happens only while the map picker is open; the rest of the app never contacts a map server. OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
Location is optional. You can deny location permission and instead:
- pick a location manually on a map, or
- choose one of the 64 Bangladesh districts built into the app.
The app never accesses location in the background beyond what is needed to keep prayer times current.
3. Data stored on your device (and only there)
The following is saved in the app's private storage on your phone and is never uploaded anywhere (unless you explicitly enable the optional backup in section 4):
- App settings (language, theme, calculation method, madhab, text size, alarm on/off)
- Custom alarms and reminders
- Prayer tracking, tasks, focus sessions, sleep logs, journal entries, dhikr counts, monthly reviews, badges
- Notification history
- Downloaded Hadith books and cached weather/holiday data
Deleting it: uninstalling the app (or clearing its data in Android settings) permanently deletes all of this. There is no copy anywhere else.
Exports: report/CSV export features create files only when you explicitly choose to export, and sharing them is entirely under your control through the Android share sheet.
4. Optional Google Drive backup
Backup is entirely optional. The app is fully functional without signing in, and nothing is backed up unless you turn backup on in Settings → Backup & Restore.
If you choose to enable it, you sign in with your Google account (handled by Google's own account picker — we never see or store a password). The app then saves a backup of your habit data (prayer records, tasks, focus and sleep sessions, journal entries, dhikr counts, alarms, and notification history) into a hidden, app-private folder in your own Google Drive.
How often it runs. Connecting an account also switches on an automatic backup that runs once every 24 hours, so your copy doesn't quietly fall out of date. It only ever runs on Wi-Fi, it is skipped when your data hasn't changed since the last upload, and you can turn it off at any time with the "Automatic daily backup" switch in Settings → Backup & Restore — the "Back up now" button then remains for manual backups. Nothing is uploaded before you connect an account, and nothing is uploaded after you disconnect. The three most recent backups are kept; older ones are deleted automatically.
This backup:
- is stored in your Google account's storage, not on our servers — we still operate no servers and cannot access your backups;
- uses the narrow
drive.appdatapermission, which cannot see, read, or modify the rest of your Drive — only the app's own hidden folder; - can be deleted at any time with the "Delete backup" button in Settings, by disconnecting, or from your Google account's storage settings (Drive → Storage → Manage apps);
- is governed by Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) while it resides in Google Drive.
When connected, the app stores your Google account email locally on your device only to show which account backup uses. Disconnecting removes it. Uninstalling the app does not delete an existing Drive backup — restore it by reinstalling and connecting the same account, or delete it from your Google account's storage settings.
Google API compliance. QiblaLife's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The app requests only the narrow drive.appdata scope, uses it solely to provide the user-facing backup feature, and does not transfer this data to any third party.
5. Network connections the app makes
QiblaLife works offline. The only network requests it ever makes are:
| Service | Purpose | Data sent |
|---|---|---|
| Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com, air-quality-api.open-meteo.com) | Weather forecast & air quality | Your coordinates only |
| OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) — only while the map picker is open | Map tiles for picking your location manually | The map area you are viewing, plus the app's package name as user-agent |
| jsDelivr CDN (cdn.jsdelivr.net) | Downloading Hadith books you request (e.g., Sahih al-Bukhari) | None — a static file is fetched |
| GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com) | A small yearly holiday-dates file (moon-sighting corrections) | None — a static file is fetched |
| Google Drive API (googleapis.com) — only if you enable backup | Uploading/restoring your backup to your own Drive | Your backup file, into your own account (section 4) |
These are standard HTTPS requests; like any web request, the servers technically see your IP address in order to respond. We do not operate these services and attach no identifiers to any request. Open-Meteo's privacy policy: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
6. What we do NOT do
- ❌ No advertising, no ad SDKs, no advertising ID
- ❌ No analytics or tracking SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no crash reporting)
- ❌ No mandatory accounts, registration, or login (Google sign-in exists only for the optional backup)
- ❌ No collection of contacts, photos, files, microphone, camera, or messages
- ❌ No selling, renting, or sharing of any data with anyone
- ❌ No background tracking of your movements
7. Permissions explained
| Permission | Why the app asks |
|---|---|
| Location (fine/coarse) | Calculate prayer times & Qibla on-device; fetch local weather (optional — manual/district modes exist) |
| Notifications | Prayer-time reminders, alarms, and habit reminders |
| Exact alarms | Prayer alarms must ring at the exact minute of the prayer |
| Run at startup (boot) | Re-schedule your alarms after the phone restarts |
| Internet / network state | The services listed in section 5 |
| Full-screen notifications | Show a full-screen prayer/alarm screen over the lock screen when it rings |
| Vibrate, foreground service, wake lock | Ring alarms reliably and run the focus timer with the screen off |
8. Reminders, alarms & religious content
- Prayer-time notifications, Jumu'ah reminders, custom alarms and the default wake-up alarms are scheduled and rung entirely on your device — no server is involved in any reminder.
- Religious content (Quran, Hadith, virtues of Friday, forbidden-time references) is informational, bundled inside the app or downloaded as static files, and involves no personal data.
9. Children
QiblaLife's content (prayer times, Quran, Hadith) is suitable for all ages. The app collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
10. Data security & retention
- All personal data stays in the app's private storage on your device, protected by Android's app sandboxing — the primary security of your data is that it never leaves your phone.
- Retention: data is kept only on your device for as long as the app is installed. Uninstalling (or clearing app data) removes everything immediately. An optional Drive backup is retained in your Google account until you delete it (section 4).
- All network connections the app makes use HTTPS encryption.
11. Your control over your data
Everything is under your direct control, with no requests or waiting:
| You want to… | How |
|---|---|
| See your data | It's all visible inside the app (reports, history, journal) |
| Export it | Report/CSV export buttons — files go only where you share them |
| Delete some of it | Delete individual alarms, journal entries, notification history, etc. in-app |
| Delete all of it | Uninstall the app, or Android Settings → Apps → QiblaLife → Clear data |
| Delete the cloud backup | Settings → Backup & Restore → Delete backup (or your Google account's storage settings) |
| Stop location use | Deny/revoke the permission; use manual map pick or district selection instead |
12. Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices ever change (for example, a new feature that uses a new service), this page will be updated and the effective date above revised before the change ships. Significant changes will be noted in the app's update notes.
